Who We Are
Flora & Fauna Botanicals is a Minnesota-based mother and daughter business which blossomed out of our backyard garden. Our philosophy of wellness is simple- from the garden, to the kitchen, to nourish our bodies. No chemicals here!
We use organic permaculture and pollinator-friendly practices to grow our calendula flowers, which are hand-picked and hand-crafted in small batches to ensure the highest quality oil. Ingredients that we cannot grow in the garden are sustainably sourced locally or from the surrounding upper mid-west region. Though used topically, the ingredients are so pure, our balms are actually edible!
“My hands have been on the edge of bleeding from cold weather and constant washing. But I couldn't believe the difference after using the balm even just once!”
Our Ingredients
Calendula flowers growing in the greenhouse during the winter months
All balms consist of three main ingredients: grass-fed and finished rendered beef tallow, organically grown calendula (Calendula Officinalis), and non-GMO grapeseed oil. Some blends also contain 100% organic, USDA certified therapeutic-grade essential oils.
Uses
Apply sparingly (a little goes a long way) all over face, lips and tender eye areas. Our balms are intensely moisturizing for all over the body. Perfect for maintaining healthy skin or healing a wide variety of skin conditions.
Customers have found relief when using our balms to treat the following:
Acne
Dry skin
Eczema
Wrinkles/fine lines
Diaper rash
Surgical scars
Wounds
“My baby had an awful diaper rash, which calmed down so quickly after using the tallow! Didn't bother him at all during application since it's so soft and melts as you warm it!”
The Science
The fatty acids in grass fed tallow are similar in molecular structure to those found in human skin and sebum. This makes tallow highly skin compatible and allows it to absorb deeply. Tallow intensely hydrates and nourishes skin with its naturally occurring vitamins A, D, E, K and B1. Tallow also contains natural anti-microbial and anti-inflammatory properties (Tolsma, M., 2020. bumblebeeapothecary.com). (Decker, Megan) 2023, refinery29.com.
Calendula is renowned for its wound-healing properties. Rich in flavonoids, studies have shown calendula increased the skin’s healing velocity, promotes collagen and new tissue growth. Calendula is an anti-inflammatory, anti-microbial, anti-cancer, and has a natural SPF of 8. (Cervoni,Barbie RD), 2023, verywellhealth.com
Grape seed oil contains powerful antioxidants shown to even out skin tone, reduce signs of aging, and prevent sun damage. Noncomedogenic, anti-microbial, and anti-inflammatory properties. (Levy, Jillian CHJHC), 2022, draxe.com.
